Hamilton bus fare sees increase for 2023

Riders of the Hamilton Street Railway (HSR) are about to pay a bit more for their buses. 

That’s because the City of Hamilton has announced a fare increase on HSR transit vehicles for 2023 for both cash fare and PRESTO users. 

Beginning Friday, September 1st, riders can expect to pay an additional 25 cents on cash fares and an additional 10 cents on adult PRESTO fares, increasing those rates to $3.50 and $2.70 respectively. 

Additionally, single-ride PRESTO fares for youth ages 13 to 19 or seniors ages 65 and up will be raised to $2.25. Children between the ages of 6 and 12 still ride the HSR for free with a PRESTO Card. 

A monthly PRESTO pass for adults will now be priced at $118.80, or at $99.00 for youth and $41.50 for seniors ages 65 and up. 

The last time HSR cash fare saw an increase was back in 2019, when it was bumped from $3 per ride to $3.25.
