Though trends for new confirmed cases aren’t exactly improving, Hamilton has nonetheless avoided moving into COVID-19 lockdown once again and is being held steady within the red zone.
This news comes exactly one week after Hamilton was thought to be on the edge of a lockdown the first time, and a similar energy existed among locals this week until the Ontario government announced Friday afternoon that Hamilton would be staying put in the red zone of the province’s tiered COVID-19 restrictions until further notice.

It’s an especially surprising outcome given that Hamilton’s daily caseloads have not really trended downwards, and the city currently features a record-breaking number of 26 active outbreaks in long term care homes, schools, and businesses.
It was announced that the Windsor-Essex and York regions would be moving into lockdown as of Monday, and another weekly review will occur next Friday to see if Hamilton ends up moving into lockdown then.
To avoid lockdown, public health urges Hamilton residents to stay diligent about existing health & safety measures including staying home whenever possible, not gathering with those outside of your household, wearing a mask and maintaining physical distancing in public spaces at all times, and frequently washing your hands.
Hamilton currently has 620 known active cases of COVID-19, with a total of 3,905 cases since the pandemic began. 107 of those cases have resulted in death.
