Hamilton is expanding free WiFi to more parks, public spaces

The City of Hamilton is further expanding free WiFi availability in some local parks and public spaces.

It’s part of a three-year pilot project by the city, which has already turned Gage Park and Waterdown Memorial Park into spots where residents can connect to the internet for free if needed.

Now, William Connell Park at 1086 West 5th Street is being added as a third location in the project, and even more local parks are scheduled to go live with free WiFi by the end of 2022.

The city is taking a mindful approach to the locations of its free WiFi hubs, attempting to situate them in communities with the highest need for that access by eliminating barriers to accessing the internet for Hamilton residents.

“Modern infrastructure availability and access is critical to our community. The addition of Wi-Fi at William Connell Park will allow all residents access to services, information, online learning and more. This pilot project providing Wi-Fi access in parks creates a more digitally accessible City of Hamilton,” said Mayor Fred Eisenberger in a statement.

Currently, the City of Hamilton features 76 city locations where public WiFi access is available.
