The Fence Guy brings quality fencing services to Hamilton

The Fence Guy has been one of Hamilton’s leading companies specializing in fence building services for the past decade; but owner and founder Mike Fournier’s experience runs back even earlier than that.
“Since I was 14, I was working for my uncle’s fence company and learning the industry and skills,” he says. “I put in my time there to learn it all, but then wanted to branch out and start my own business as I got older.”
That decision to take the entrepreneurial lead is how The Fence Guy was born back in 2011, offering a variety of fencing services to residences and businesses alike in Hamilton and beyond; all while backed by more than 15 years of well-honed industry experience.
Fournier and his team have become a popular fixture in Hamilton for their fencing services, which includes the installation of fences in a wide range of materials including custom designed wood fencing, chain link, modular iron, and vinyl.
On top of that, The Fence Guy even goes beyond their namesake by offering deck building services, and they’re also known for fence repair; a job that other similar companies in the area don’t typically provide, according to Fournier.
“A lot of companies won’t do it as the job is too small,” he explains. “A super common is with old wood fences, the main posts will snap and break with old age or just the wind. The posts need to be dug out of concrete and reset, and the old panels attached back on.
“During the busy season a lot of companies won’t touch these jobs, but we have a set crew that just does them.”
But running a fencing business in more recent years has come with its share of unexpected challenges. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there have been massive lumber shortages which have in turn led to skyrocketing prices, leaving contractors like Fournier fighting to get their hands on extremely limited supply while also being left with little choice but to charge clients significantly more for projects.
With the cost of lumber high even still today, Fournier and his team can still be seen on occasion on CHCH News, where The Fence Guy was first featured back in Fall of 2020 in a special news segment responding to the lumber shortage.
“I get recognized a lot in hardware stores after it’s aired.” Says Fournier. “I always laugh when it happens.”
Nevertheless, business is booming nowadays for The Fence Guy, who have become just as known in Hamilton for their personability and strong customer service focus as they have for their quality fencing work, through thoughtfully-crafted custom jobs that are as attractive as they are functional.
With well-honed skills and passion for his work in equal measure, Fournier is just as passionate about bringing his work as The Fence Guy to a city like Hamilton; the place he was born and raised.
“Hamilton is a great city with a great community,” he remarks. “It’s been great building relationships with other businesses and seeing the city explode in growth to what it has become now.”
