In an effort to enhance emergency response capacity for medical care in Hamilton, the city has announced they will be launching a Paramedic Bike Unit beginning in 2021.
Hamilton’s Paramedic Service has been awarded a $20,000 grant for this initiative from Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation of Canada.
“We are committed to helping organizations such as Hamilton Paramedic Service continue their life saving work within local communities,” said Robin Peters, Executive Director of Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation of Canada. “We are honored to be able to award this grant and do our part to ensure that Hamilton is safer for everyone, including first responders.”

The new Paramedic Bike Unit will see paramedics using bicycle transportation as a means of efficient emergency response in hard-to-reach areas such as crowded events and wooded areas, providing medical care until an emergency vehicle can arrive.
“In these challenging times, we are extremely appreciative of our community partners like Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation of Canada for supporting all emergency services in the city,” said Michael Sanderson, Chief of the Hamilton Paramedic Service.
“Our shared commitment remains delivering the quality of care that the people of Hamilton expect and deserve – the new Bike Unit will help accomplish this by enhancing emergency response.”
The Paramedic Bike Unit is expected to be operational by spring of 2021.
