It seems all of the intensely rapid development going on in Hamilton is getting some major recognition, as the Intelligent Communities Forum (ICF) has just named the Hammer one of the top 7 intelligent communities around the entire world for 2020.
Each year, the ICF names 7 different worldwide communities on their list, recognizing their noteworthy advancements as economic and social hubs.
“Each exemplifies best practices in broadband deployment and use, workforce development, innovation, digital inclusion and advocacy that offers lessons to regions, cities, towns, and villages all around the world,” explains the ICF’s website. “They are charting new paths to lasting prosperity for their citizens, businesses, and institutions.”

Notably, this is Hamilton’s second time making the list, with the first being in 2018. The newly-released 2020 list also includes Hudson, Ohio; Markham, Ontario; Tallinn, Estonia; and Adelaide, South Australia. In June of this year, one of the 7 selections will be named as the number one intelligent community for 2020.
Hamilton’s recognition should come as no surprise; the city has been making major strides in recent years in areas including (but not limited to) its economic growth, urban development, arts & culture identity, innovations in the tech industry, and a commitment to revitalizing multiple patches of the city including the forthcoming West Harbour redevelopment project.
