Hamilton opens COVID-19 vaccine boosters to ages 12-17 this week

Hamilton public health is officially opening up booster doses of the COVID-19 vaccine to eligible residents ages 12 to 17 this week.

Beginning this Friday, February 18th in line with Ontario government direction, eligible youth between the ages of 12 and 17 who received their second vaccine dose at least 168 days prior can book an appointment for their booster shot or get a walk-in shot at numerous local clinics.

To book an appointment and see a list of all current vaccine clinics city-wide, locals can visit Hamilton.ca/GetYourVaccine.

Booster doses have shown to provide robust renewed protection against the infectious Omicron variant of COVID-19, with some protection against infection of any kind and a strong defence against severe outcomes.

To date, 85.2 per cent of Hamilton youth ages 12 to 17 have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. As of this coming Friday, roughly 21,000 youth in this age group in Hamilton will be eligible for their booster dose at the 168-day mark.
