Hamilton opens fourth COVID-19 boosters for residents 60 and up

As the city faces an aggressive sixth wave of the pandemic, Hamilton public health has opened up eligibility for fourth booster shots of the COVID-19 vaccine to residents aged 60 and up as well as Indigenous people aged 18 and up.

If residents in those age demographics received their third dose at least five months ago, they’re eligible to book a fourth shot as of today, Thursday April 7th at 8 am.

“Expanding booster eligibility will provide an extra layer of protection against the Omicron and BA.2 variants and, in addition to antivirals, are another tool we are using to live more safely with and manage COVID-19,” reads a release from the city.

“We encourage all Hamiltonians to ensure that they are up to date with their COVID-19 vaccines.”

Though public health strongly recommends that eligible residents receive their fourth shot five months after their third shot – citing better immune protection at the longer interval – they may also elect to receive it at a three-month interval instead.

Eligible Hamilton residents can visit the city website to find more information about vaccine clinic locations and options to book an appointment, either through the city’s online booking system or by calling the COVID-19 vaccine hotline at 905-974-9848, option 7.

Public health strongly urges the public to use all available protective measures as the city faces this sixth pandemic wave, including wearing a mask at all times in indoor public spaces, getting vaccinated and staying up to date on doses, and staying home if you have possible symptoms.
