One of Hamilton’s best pizzerias has earned a major recognition spanning well outside of the city’s borders.
MaiPai Tiki Bar, a Barton Street spot owned by Salar Madadi of Pokeh fame, has only been open in Hamilton for just under two years; but in that time, they’ve earned a rabid fanbase for their inventive and unbelievably delicious Detroit-style pizzas, loaded with more standard toppings as well as twisty takes like Big Mac or Mexican street corn-inspired feature pies.

Recently, Madadi decided to submit one of MaiPai’s popular features – the Mala Honey pie – to the Canadian Pizza Summit, a nationwide competition that draws in pizzerias and restaurants from across the country.
Thrillingly, MaiPai’s pie took home the top prize, which awards them a trip to Las Vegas to advance the pizza to the International Pizza Expo, where the pizza will compete against other heavyhitters from around the world.
The Mala Honey pie is a strong example of pizza innovation, topped intriguingly with spicy mala sauce, chili crisp, Thai basil, pickled chili, scallion, asiago cheese, and a homemade scotch bonnet honey.
MaiPai brought the pie back as a feature last week, giving locals the chance to get a taste of this award-winning creation.
