Hamilton plans for Earth Day 2018

Every year, Canadians celebrate Earth Day across the country. This year, Earth Day falls on Sunday, April 22nd. With the date quickly approaching, Hamiltonians are gearing up to help make our city a little greener this spring.

From large-scale volunteer work to setting personal goals, there are a number of different ways you can get involved in the clean up this weekend. It doesn’t matter if you live on the mountain or in the downtown core – there’s something for everybody to join in on.

You can plant trees in Churchill Park the day prior on Saturday, April 21st as early as 10:00 am.

Live near Locke Street? Why don’t you join the Locke Street Starbucks in helping them clean up Locke? Running from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm on Sunday, just meet them outside of Starbucks and you can join any time. Cleaning materials will be provided, as well as free brewed coffee.

Is Corktown your neighbourhood? Feel free to help the Corktown community clean up Shamrock Park South this Sunday. Drop by any time between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm and lend a hand. Fresh coffee and water will be provided, as long as you provide your own reusable coffee mug and water bottle.

There’s also a Beach Spring Cleanup on Sunday between 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm. Just meet at The Lakeview building located at 180 Van Wagners Beach Rd.

These are only a few of the amazing clean ups planned for this weekend. If you are unsure of events in your area, ask your friends or try searching Google for Hamilton Earth Day clean ups. There are plenty hosted all across the city.

If you are unable to volunteer this weekend, consider ways you can create a positive impact in your day-to-day life. Do you compost or use your green bin? How about donate your old clothing to charity? Have you tried using Tupperware instead of plastic sandwich bags?

You don’t have to be perfect, but every step you take to becoming more environmentally friendly is important. Small changes can add up to big results.

What are your plans for Earth Day? How do you keep the planet green? Let us know in the comments below.
