This year’s Hamilton Specialty Coffee show was a dream come true for any latte lover in the Hamilton area.
The show was held at the Hamilton Convention Centre on April 14 and 15 where guests enjoyed a fun and welcoming environment to sample, sip and waft the aromas of specialty coffees and compare the flavour profiles of roasted beans.
From latte art throw downs and live demos to industry leader led panel discussions, the $5 entrance fee really gave visitors an opportunity to learn all things coffee.
Local Hamilton coffee brewers and roasters set up shop in the centre over the weekend. Businesses that ran the coffee bar were Detour, Café Oranje, Relay, Saint James, Durand and Salty.
We are serving up samples of our RELAY Cold Brew and Mocha Cold Brew until 5pm today at the @hamiltonspecialtycoffee show! Brave the outdoors! Come have a conversation with us 😊☕. #locallyroasted #coffee #hamont #coldbrew #mochacoldbrew #CoffeeBrilliance #events pic.twitter.com/Ltz9tXWCEp

Learning how to make your own latte art was a big hit at the show and times were set up throughout the weekend for baristas to show visitors how to make a heart out of steamed milk. Learning how to do it yourself definitely made some visitors more appreciative of what baristas do countless times per day.
“It’s so much more difficult than it looks,” said Miles Byworth. “I never knew how much hand-eye coordination goes into the designs. It definitely takes practice.”
There’s a lot to know about coffee and all the other types of specialty drinks that we’ve all come to know, love and need. Like the difference between a latte and a cappuccino or a manual pour over drip. The list is endless.
