Hamilton Police release top non-emergency 911 calls of the year

The Hamilton Police have released a list of the top 10 non-emergency 911 calls they received in 2019.

Of course, most people reserve 911 calls for when they are experiencing a genuine emergency that requires immediate attention. The local police service has received about 195,000 total calls so far this year, with approximately one third of the calls not being an actual emergency at all.

A video posted on the Hamilton Police website showed members of the service reading the transcripts of some of the best non-emergency calls. It includes a call where someone was reporting that their television wasn’t working while a big sports game was on.

Another call included someone that was worried about the wellbeing of a raccoon who appeared to be cold outside. Some of the other top non-emergency calls listed include:

  • A request for a forensics person to help identify a spider in someone’s basement
  • Someone asking for cigarettes
  • Putting out an Amber Alert for a lost puppy
  • Helping locate keys lost on a drain
  • Changing a bad carpet
  • Mice in an apartment
  • Help in calling a taxi
  • Locking keys in a car

The video was posted as a reminder from the Hamilton Police Service that dialling 911 is for emergencies only. Non-emergency calls take up time and resources that potentially affect the response times and efforts of individuals who require genuine emergency attention.

To contact the Hamilton Police Service for a relevant but non-emergency issue, it’s suggested to visit their website or call 905-546-4925.
