A new decade begins on Wednesday, and with that comes the usual flurry of local New Year’s Day closures.
The City of Hamilton administrative offices will be closed on New Year’s Day and will reopen on January 2nd.

Municipal garbage and recycling pickup will look similar to other holidays where green bins, garbage and recycling will be picked up on day later if your pickup day lands on or after the holiday this week.
Public transportation including the HSR buses and ATS-DARTS will working a regular weekday service on December 31st with extended hours in a few routes and free rides after 6 pm. They will operate with their Sunday/Holiday schedule on New Year’s Day.

All recreation centres will be closed on January 1st. Program schedules start again on January 2nd. Additionally, all branches of the Hamilton Public Library will also be closed.
Canada Post outlets will be closed with mail delivery and collections being cancelled on New Year’s Day.
Most major grocery stores including Fortinos, Metro, FreshCo and No Frills will be closed. All major local malls will be closed as well including Lime Ridge Mall, Eastgate Square, The Centre on Barton, The Pen Centre, Fairview Mall, Mapleview Centre and Burlington Centre.
However, there will be some shopping options in the GTA with some of the larger malls remaining open on New Year’s Day. The Toronto Eaton Centre, Toronto Premium Outlets, Upper Canada Mall, Pacific Mall and Outlet Collection at Niagara Falls will be open on January 1st.
Most Walmart stores will be closed except for one lone store in the Niagara region. The Niagara Falls Supercentre will be open 7 am to 11 pm.
All LCBO and The Beer Store locations will be closed on January 1st.
However, it won’t be a ghost town absolutely everywhere. Most major tourist destinations near Hamilton in Toronto and Niagara Falls will be open on New Year’s Day. A list of open attractions include:
