Though other parts to the province are starting to see some COVID-19 restrictions loosen, Hamilton will remain under the current stay-at-home orders until at least February 16th, according to the provincial government.
The news was announced by the province on Monday, alongside details that when Hamilton does get to move out of stay-at-home orders, it will revert to Ontario’s colour-coded and tiered COVID-19 framework after being part of a province-wide shut down that began December 26th.

What’s not yet clear is whether or not Hamilton will revert to the grey lockdown zone, or one of the more relaxed levels of the framework when that does get to happen.
The news of the extended stay-at-home order doesn’t mean that schools in the city will remain shuttered for in-person classes, with Hamilton’s elementary and secondary schools still resuming for in-person learning as of today.
Additionally, despite these urgings for Ontarians to stay at home save for essential reasons, the Ontario government is currently looking at loosening some restrictions on non-essential businesses forced closed within the strictest lockdown measures to allow those businesses to reopen their doors with rules on total capacities.
“Our number one priority will always be protecting the health and safety of all individuals, families and workers across the province,” said Premier Doug Ford.
“But we must also consider the severe impact COVID-19 is having on our businesses. That’s why we have been listening to business owners, and we are strengthening and adjusting the Framework to allow more businesses to safely reopen and get people back to work.”
