Every holiday season, the Hamilton Shoebox Project fills boxes with gifts for local women who are at-risk or experiencing homelessness.
Since 2011, the project has delivered thousands of boxes nationwide that include necessities and luxuries that would bring a smile to many faces.

Donors have also been including spontaneous words of encouragement that have been especially appreciated by gift recipients, says the Shoebox Project website.
However, the 2020 campaign is going to look a little different due to the current health and safety restrictions brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Those looking to make donations can build a digit shoebox on the Shoebox Project website with the holiday drive unable to collect physical gifts this year.
Visitors to the website can virtually select items to include in the digital shoebox with the total amount spent on the items being the value of a monetary donation.
Images of gifts such as deodorant, hand cream, and lip balm are representations of the items that would be in your shoebox.
The Shoebox Project was started when sisters-in-law Jessica, Caroline, Vanessa, and Kate Mulroney noticed that many holiday drives were focused on children experiencing homelessness but there were no drives for their mothers.
The goal for the first holiday season was 156 shoeboxes. When word of mouth started to spread around the Greater Toronto Area, they received over 400 donations that year.
Visit the Shoebox Project website to build a virtual shoebox or make a donation for the organization’s Hamilton chapter.
