Hamilton Urban Core Community Health Centre gets a well-deserved makeover

The Hamilton Urban Core Community Health Centre plays a huge role in the inner city. Founded in 1996, the centre has spent over 20 years working to not only change the lives of thousands of inner city residents, but to shape a better, healthier and more accessible city as a whole.

This week, Hamilton police and community volunteers wanted to give back to such a hard working organization. Only needing a few hours and a few paintbrushes, they were able to give Hamilton Urban Core a well-deserved makeover.

The makeover serves a duel purpose. Not only does a coat of paint freshen up the space, but it also covers up the majority of the building’s tagging and graffiti. Hamilton Urban Core also plans to cut down the trees and shrubbery on the property; the green space is popular for doing drugs and there have been overdoses there in the past.

For those who need to partake in drug use, the centre encourages them to use their safe injection site instead.

To complete the makeover, the Hamilton Urban Core Community Health Centre is looking for a couple of young, aspiring artists to paint a mural at the building.
