Hamilton’s CHCH television tower comes down after 6 decades

After 64 years standing as one of Canada’s tallest structures, the CHCH television tower in Hamilton has been brought down to earth.
Located at 481 First Road West in Stoney Creek, the 357.5 metre-high tower was used by CHCH for broadcasting beginning in 1962, but a new transmitter tower was recently built in Flamborough as a replacement.
With the property the CHCH tower resided on sold to developers, dismantling of the tower began in November 2023 by use of a gin pole.
A decades-long part of the Stoney Creek skyline is no more. Watch the old CHCH-TV transmission tower come down in dramatic fashion, tonight at 6 and 11 p.m.

The remainder of the tower was demolished on the morning of March 13th, 2024, falling down in a dramatic display and leaving a noteworthy gap in the Stoney Creek skyline.
Until the CN Tower in Toronto was built in 1976, the CHCH television tower was Canada’s tallest structure, and until its demolition remaining the sixth tallest in the country.

23.03.2024 4:38 pmSo that would explain why CHCH at times especially in early afternoon or early morning seems to cut out if you are on direct air reception. It has been very annoying.

01.04.2024 11:06 pmI’ve wondered why CHCH was dropping out. Now in Flamborough? My antenna doesn’t point that way. Another channel lost. I did loose a bunch from the States after the last UHF shuffle
Not that there’s much of anything to watch these days.
