Hamilton’s Chocolate Tales launches first pizza making workshop

From chocolate to… pizza?

When we heard that Chocolate Tales – a Hamilton company specializing in chocolate and baking workshops since 2009 – was launching a pizza making workshop this year, it seemed to come out of left field.

But the connection makes more sense than it might initially seem. Chocolate and pizza-making both revolve around time-honoured techniques, quality ingredients, and passionate craft; not to mention a tasty result. The pizza workshop will teach guests the art of making pizza from scratch in a fun, educational, social setting.

“When you come to one of our workshops you will learn, laugh, play, and eat,” says David Levy, founder of Chocolate Tales. “We like to bring people together, allow them to enjoy each other’s company, learn new skills, and enjoy what they made.”

Levy’s idea for the pizza workshop came after he learned how to make his own pizzas at home after struggling to find quality pizza in Hamilton that accommodated his dairy allergy. He quickly became fascinated with the craft of pizza making and the level of nuanced care and detail that goes into making an exceptional pie.

Now, Levy is passing on his knowledge through Chocolate Tales’ first-ever pizza-making class that will walk participants through the experience in a hands-on, low-pressure setting.

The 2-hour workshop, suitable for beginners and only $52 per person, begins with a lesson on the history and science of pizza before guests dive in on creating their own dough from scratch in preparation to make two pizzas: one savoury, and one sweet as a dessert.

Guests then make a chocolate ganache that will be used on the dessert pizza and, after their dough has risen, they’ll learn how to form the pizza and dress it with provided tomato sauce, cheese, and a selection of vegetarian toppings. Then, the pizzas bake and can be enjoyed fresh during the workshop with sparkling water or Italian soda.

The whole thing caps off with a sweet finale of finishing the dessert pizza with the homemade ganache and other tasty toppings, which they’ll take home along with their newly-learned skills in pizza craft.

Those who have taken a workshop through Chocolate Tales know how fun and informative they are, and the pizza making workshop looks no different! The next class is on Saturday, February 24th at 4 pm, and locals can book their spots online now.
