HSR buses will be free for riders after 6 pm on New Year’s Eve

As a final gift of the holiday season, the Hamilton Street Railway (HSR) will be offering riders free transit service after 6 pm for those looking to get around the city safely on New Year’s Eve; especially after a couple of, um, celebratory adult beverages.

It will be operating on a regular weekday schedule and offering an extended evening service on most routes. The Trans-Cab service will be running on regular weekday hours.

Select routes will be running as late as 2:30 am on New Year’s Eve. The late night service provides customers with safe transportation after they celebrate and ring in the new decade.

Several routes will also have increased service, with buses coming every 15 to 20 minutes. One regular late night evening trip has changed slightly on 1-King, 24-Upper Sherman, 25-Upper Wentworth and 35-College.

Extended evening service will not be available on these routes:

  • 10 B Line
  • 12 Wentworth
  • 16 Ancaster
  • 18 Waterdown
  • 20 A Line
  • 42 Mohawk East
  • 56 Centennial
  • 52A Dundas Local
  • 56 Centennial

A full New Year’s Eve schedule and transit map can be found on the City of Hamilton website.

Extending the New Year’s Eve service is part of a broader strategy to build a more modern service that improves customer experience, providing service that is customer-focused, safe and reliable.
