This Ancaster Starbucks has closed its doors permanently

Caffeine lovers in the Ancaster area now have one less local option to feed their habit: a popular Starbucks location has closed its doors, despite petitioning and rallying from the community to keep it open.

Located at 220 Wilson Street East, the Starbucks location said goodbye and served up cups to its final patrons officially on December 27th, many of whom were likely among the roughly 800 signatories on the circulated petition.

The petition, launched in August by local supporter Christine DeMarco, was first and foremost an expression of solidarity from the Ancaster community, in spite of the flimsy likelihood that the community response would affect the decision of the company. The efforts did not go unnoticed, with the Wilson Street location offering a customer appreciation cake to its loyal local base in the weeks leading up to the closure.

While it’s notable that multiple other Starbucks locations remain open in the Ancaster area, it won’t be quite the same for some locals; the Wilson Street East Starbucks had cemented itself as a particularly beloved community gathering spot, with regular patrons noting special bonds with the location’s staff.

A note left on the building’s door by the local district manager sums up the Starbucks location’s particular impact: “It has been a great pleasure to connect with you every day. We are very thankful to have played a role in your daily routine and that you have shared these moments of your life with us.”
