ICYMI: Hamilton Tiger-Cats are headed to the Grey Cup

For the first time since 2014, the Hamilton Tiger Cats are returning to the Grey Cup after defeating the Edmonton Eskimos 36-16.

In front of a packed crowd at Tim Hortons Field, with attendance officially recorded as 25,177 people, the Ticats showed up and played some great playoff football.

Dane Evans continued his historic season, as the back-up-turned-starter threw for 386 yards and a touchdown; including some world-class throws to Brandon Banks and Bralon Addison, both of which had over 100 yards receiving on the day. Cameron Marshall led the Ticats rushing game with 31 yards on 9 carries, but it was backup quarterback David Watford who would run two goal-line QB Sneaks into the end zone for two of the three Hamilton touchdowns.  The highest scorer of the game, however, was kicker Liam Hajrullahu with 4 field goals, 3 conversions, and a CFL exclusive rouge for a total of 16 points.

Check out this unbelievable catch by Brandon Banks in the 2nd quarter:

Of course, a championship offence is nothing without a defence to match. Luckily, the Ticats have both. The defence collected three key turnovers, two of which came in the first quarter, giving the cats loads of momentum early on. The Cats won the battle at the line of scrimmage, overcoming the best offensive line in the CFL and coming out with 3 QB sacks, and holding their running game to under 100 yards.

With an elite passing game, and the best receiving duo in the CFL, the Ticats’ offence will be a challenge for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers to contain. When you consider the fact the defence is also playing out of their minds, it’s a tall order for any opponent to expect a win.
