Italian-style vegan butcher and deli opens in Hamilton

A new butcher and deli specializing in hearty Italian-style sandwiches and cold cuts opens today in Hamilton.

There’s a twist, though: the place is 100 per cent vegan.

Nonno’s Plant-Based Butcher is now open on the lower level of the Hamilton Farmers’ Market at 35 York Boulevard, serving up a sizeable menu of freshly made sandwiches, panini, and more; all made without a scrap of meat or dairy in sight.

Expect sandwiches on fresh Italian bread with choices like the Classico, topped with a choice of vegan deli meat along with lettuce, tomato, red onion, hot peppers, and plant mozzarella; or the ‘Forgettaboutit’ loaded with vegan pastrami, vegan cheese, caramelized onion, pickle, Dijon mustard, mayo, and roasted garlic butter.

But that’s hardly all: chicken parmigiana sandwiches, meatball subs, and hefty roast beef handhelds in au jus are also on hand, similarly built with exclusively plant-based ingredients.

The new food spot is a sister establishment to the popular vegan fast food joint Bring Me Some, which itself had a successful start in the Hamilton Farmers’ Market and has since opened in its own brick & mortar location on Concession Street.

Fans of good plant-based food – and good food in general – should check out this intriguing new spot!
