Local artist hosts open house showcasing paintings that capture Hamilton’s history

Local artist Kathryn Smith celebrates the history of Hamilton through life-like recreations of city life.

Smith is one of the area’s most collected artists and this weekend art lovers have an opportunity to purchase prints of some of her most popular paintings at her annual Open House Studio Sale

Many of Smith’s paintings explore a realistic style of the historical settings in the city. The annual open house is a popular event that allows the public to purchase rare and collectible representations of Hamilton.

Some paintings showcase the holiday spirit of Hamilton with themed pieces that show Christmas celebrations in the city.

Smith grew up in Hamilton and attended the Dundas Valley School of the Arts. She studied under master artist Gordon Perrier for almost four years. After graduating she started doing private commissions of people’s homes, children, and pets.

Smith usually works in oils, watercolours, and acrylic paints. Her best known work is reproduced prints of well-known buildings in Hamilton.

Join Smith for her annual Open House Studio Sale on December 7th and 8th between 10 am and 2 pm. Make sure to ring bell number 2 at 47 Duke Street to get in.
