Longstanding Italian restaurant in Hamilton sees ‘soft-closing’

One of Hamilton’s longstanding spots for traditional Italian cuisine has ‘soft-closed’ and changed its operations.
La Cantina Ristorante – located at 60 Walnut Street South – has been a well-loved, family-run Italian restaurant serving Hamilton for 37 years, serving up a menu of classics including pasta dishes, pizzas, antipasti, and much more.
After decades of feeding locals with hearty Italian comforts, La Cantina is shifting its focus and has closed to the general public for in-person dining, now shifting to a focus on private bookings and events with prix-fixe menus as well as prepared foods for takeout.
“It has been a truly incredible journey that started December of 1986 at the fondly remembered plaza location on 54 Queen Street,” wrote La Cantina in a post on social media.
“It has been a life-changing experience, but now, at this stage in our lives, it is time for us to share some quiet time with our family and friends.”
While many La Cantina loyals are surely sad not to be able to pop in for dinner and drinks any longer, it’s heartening to see this staple Hamilton small business keep some branches of its operations going strong.
