New horror comedy series on Amazon Prime was filmed in Hamilton

Hamilton residents who frequent James Street North may remember seeing a New York street corner erected along the strip this time last year, complete with a subway stop and an old-school deli and grocer.

That turned out to be part of the set for The Horror of Dolores Roach, a new darkly funny horror comedy series on Amazon Prime that was recently released for streaming.

Taking place in New York City and inspired by the classic gothic horror of Sweeney Todd, this new series follows Dolores Roach after she’s released from an unjust prison sentence and returns to Washington Heights and begins working as a masseuse in the basement of her friend’s empanada shop.

The series stars Justina Machado in the title role and features other noteworthy names including K. Todd Freeman, Marc Maron, Cyndi Lauper, and Canada’s own Jean Yoon of Kim’s Convenience fame.

Filming for The Horror of Dolores Roach took place in both Toronto and Hamilton, with portions of James North and Barton Streets standing in for New York City.

We can’t wait to check out this new series streaming on Amazon Prime and trying to catch as many Hamilton sightings as possible!
