Ensuring wheelchair users can also enjoy parts of the playground at Hamilton parks, a new wheelchair accessible swing has opened at Heritage Green Sports Park.
Located at 255 First Road West in Stoney Creek, the new swing is designed to accommodate wheelchair users and their chairs so they don’t need to transfer into the apparatus.
The design also allows children of all abilities to play together with barrier-free access, in alignment with the Accessibilities for Ontarians with Disabilities Act of 2005.
The Heritage Green Community Trust was an instrumental contributor in financing the swing, which initially launched in the middle of May.
This marks Hamilton’s second wheelchair-accessible swing at a public park. The first was opened in September 2020 at Gage Park.
