Ontario opens COVID-19 vaccines to all residents 18+ this week

Great news for Ontario residents: with millions more doses of COVID-19 vaccine arriving, the province has widened eligibility ahead of schedule, meaning any adult resident of Ontario can book their vaccine appointment starting this week.
Beginning this Tuesday, May 18th at 8 am, any Ontarian aged 18 or over will be able to book a COVID-19 vaccine appointment through Ontario’s online booking portal. This includes residents who will be turning 18 this calendar year.

This comes a week ahead of the original projected date at which all Ontario adults were expected to be able to book their vaccine, which was previously expected to be May 24th.
“As the pace of Ontario’s COVID-19 vaccine rollout continues to accelerate with 2.2 million doses scheduled to arrive this week, the government is extending booking eligibility at mass immunization clinics to individuals aged 18 and over,” reads a release from the province.
“This high number of doses is due to an early delivery of the week of May 24th shipment, to accommodate the long weekend, and is an opportunity for the province to offer an appointment to receive the vaccine to more Ontarians ahead of schedule.”
Ahead of this, some Ontario residents ages 18 and up were able to receive a vaccine, but only if they lived in one of the province’s designated COVID-19 hotspots.
Additionally, beginning the week of May 31st, Ontario youth ages 12 to 17 will also be able to book a COVID-19 vaccine through the province’s online booking system following Health Canada’s approval of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine to be used in people ages 12 and up.
As of May 12th, over half of all Ontarians ages 18 and up received their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, with that number expected to climb to 65 per cent by the end of May.
