Popular CBC TV series debuts episode about 1991 Hamilton murder

A famous murder case from 1991 right here in Hamilton is now the subject of an episode of a popular television series.

The Detectives, currently in its third season on CBC, is a true crime series that dramatizes real-life crime investigations, combining real interview footage with scripted scenes and vignettes.

In Season 3’s third episode, titled Starting Over, the subject is the brutal murder of a Hamilton convenience store clerk in November 1991; one considered to be the product of a hidden conspiracy.

The episode’s interview subject is retired Staff Sergeant Steve Kovach, who served with the Hamilton Police Service for 34 years in a number of capacities, including the Homicide Unit. His interview segments are interspliced with dramatized footage recreating the incident and investigation.
