Results are in from Hamilton’s first citizen survey

Earlier this year, Hamilton conducted its first citizen survey.

Over 22,000 Hamilton phone numbers were randomly selected and called to participate in the survey. Between January 15 and February 6, a total of 550 completed responses were collected.

Citizens who chose to respond online had access to the survey between January 15 and February 4; a total of 1,307 responses were submitted.

The results of the telephone survey highlight many positives the city has to offer.

Of those surveyed, 92% of citizens said they are satisfied with their life in Hamilton. Many believe that the city’s emergency services are excellent – 97% found that the city’s Fire departments do an excellent, very good, or good job, and 88% feel the same way about Hamilton’s paramedics.

Citizens also agreed that Hamilton is a great place to live, learn, and play.

While Hamilton excels in many areas, some citizens believe that certain services can be improved.

Out of those surveyed, 38% believe that roads and sidewalks need major repairs. Hamilton has some notoriously bad roads – earlier this year, Burlington Street East was named the worst road in Ontario for the second year in a row.

Hamiltonians also believe that the city’s snow plow and salting services can be improved – 21% of those surveyed feel that the current snow removal system is poor.

The results of the telephone survey offer the city plenty of insight into how to maintain and improve Hamilton as a whole.

Through the survey, citizens have addressed where they would like to see improvements and what they would like to see stay the same. Moving forward, Hamilton can take the concerns addressed in the survey and devise a plan to tackle the issues effectively.

Did you participate in the citizen survey? Where would you like to see the city make improvements? Let us know in the comments.
