Snowstorm advisory issued for Hamilton on Friday evening

Break out the shovels: Hamilton is about to get hit with its first true snowstorm of the winter season.

A weather advisory has been issued by Environment Canada explaining that Hamilton could see between 5 to 10 cm of snowfall beginning Friday evening, with peak snowfall rates of 2 to 5 cm per hour.

The snowfall will be accompanied by strong gusts of wind up to 70 km/h creating reduced visibility and difficult travel conditions for drivers and pedestrians.

Additionally, the snow may transition to periods of rain as temperatures rise above freezing throughout the evening.

Environment Canada advises Hamiltonians to avoid travel if possible, and to take extra care when walking or driving in affected areas with hazardous weather conditions.

The weekend’s weather forecast also indicates continues periods of snowfall through both Saturday and Sunday.
