Some Hamilton residents have been leaving messages of positivity around the city

Cut-out paper hearts on lamp posts. Buses sharing messages of positivity on their display screens. Handwritten notes that signal the togetherness of Hamiltonians.

During a time when everyone is encouraged to work together in order to reduce the spread of COVID-19, some Hamilton residents have been leaving positive notes around the city to encourage people through difficult periods of social distancing.

Local Twitter user Marie Porter shared a thread of images that show the kindness of the community. Notes with messages like “We will be okay,” “We… us united in love, in peace, we heal our world,” and “Compassion counts, eh” have been appearing in spots around Hamilton.

Porter said in her post that many of the signs can be easily spotted at intersections around the city, and could be photographed when sitting at a red light.

These words of encouragement are especially important as the warmer spring weather continues to move into this city and tempts some Hamilton residents to violate social distancing measures. Despite local closures and intense urgings for locals to stay inside, parks and residential streets were nonetheless packed over the weekend as the temperature crept close to 20°C.

This is after a week when Hamilton saw its number of positive COVID-19 cases jump to 70, and reports emerged yesterday that a nurse at McMaster University Medical Centre-McMaster Children’s Hospital tested positive for the new coronavirus.
