Low-cost airline Swoop announced its winter schedule earlier this week and outlined that they were moving about a dozen weekly flights from John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport to Toronto’s Pearson International Airport in October.
Eight flights a week to and from Abbotsford, B.C. and six flights a week to and from Halifax will end in Hamilton on October 23rd.

The only flights within Canada flying out of Hamilton in the winter are services to Edmonton and WestJet’s flights to Calgary. Swoop’s flights to U.S. destinations have also stopped out of Hamilton.
Starting on October 25th, Swoop will begin operations out of Toronto to nine destinations including Edmonton, Abbotsford, Kelowna, Halifax, Cancun, Montego Bay and three U.S. cities.
This is a major blow to the Hamilton airport especially considering the difficult time they’ve encountered during the COVID-19 pandemic.
John C. Munro has seen an 85 per cent drop in passengers travelling through the airport compared to last year.
Earlier this year, Swoop announced its plans to add flights to and from Hamilton, but their plans changed due to the restrictions to travelling.
