Cyclists of Hamilton now have some online maps that will help them take a different kind of scenic route in town.
Hamilton-based cycling advocacy group Everyone Rides – which seeks to “remove the barriers preventing people from accessing bikes and Hamilton Bike Share” – has created digital maps allowing locals on bikes and on foot to explore routes that showcase over 70 of the city’s beautiful, diverse public art and mural work.

“Hamilton has been supporting local street artists for many years and our city is filled with murals you may not know about or may have forgotten,” reads a message on Everyone Rides’ website.
“Use this map and discover all the amazing art and artists that Hamilton has to offer. Riding a bike or walking will increase your ability to see everything because many works are located on the backs of buildings and along laneways.”
The main interactive map includes clickable icons showing you which murals are located at various parts of the city, so you can plan a walking or biking trip and take in some stunning street art; an especially great and safe activity idea for the pandemic era.
For more concentrated routes, Everyone Rides also offers separate maps for a mural route in the Barton Village/Stinson/Ottawa Street area, as well as a mural route spanning Hamilton’s downtown, the Beasley neighbourhood, and Hess Village.
Locals who make use of the maps and go exploring are encouraged to share their journey on social media with the hashtag #HamOntMuralMap while tagging Everyone Rides on Twitter at @Everyone_Rides_ or on Instagram at @everyoneridesinitiative.
