A decades-old local charity just opened a new grocery shop in Burlington with a unique mission.
Food for Life, active in the Hamilton and Halton regions as the largest food rescue organization, collects surplus perishable food from local grocery stores and offers it to the community free of charge, helping both to address food waste and food insecurity.
The charity just opened their Mountainside Market at 2258 Mountainside Drive in Burlington, offering nutritious rescued food from produce to meats to dairy and more.
Food for Life is proud to announce the launch of the Mountainside Market.

Though the shop is accessible by anyone, it’s also meant to be a key access point for locals experiencing food insecurity to get their hands on fresh, rescued food products offered for free.
Currently open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 am to 6 pm and accessible by appointment, Food for Life’s new Mountainside Market is certain to be an important local institution that positively powers the local community.
Since 1995, Food for Life has rescued over 26 million pounds of food from the surplus stocks of retail and wholesale food suppliers and grocers in the region.
