Local school boards are cancelling March break trips as coronavirus cases continue to rise around the globe.
The Brant Haldimand Norfolk Catholic District School Board (BHNCDSB), Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board (HWCDSB), and Grand Eerie District School Board (GEDSB) have confirmed that they have cancelled all trips to vulnerable areas during the week of March 16th.

This includes a trip to Ireland for Holy Trinity Catholic School in BHNCDSB, and a trip to Italy and France for Cathedral High School in HWCDSB. Also, some trips to Ireland and Scotland were called off for schools in GEDSB.
Hamilton’s public school board, Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board, says they had no trips planned for March break. The COVID-19 workgroup formed by the board are keeping tabs on the severity of the virus in the community as they consider plans for events and trips booked for later in the school year.
So far, there have been no reported cases of coronavirus in Hamilton, though the city had a small scare after a McMaster student returned from Italy with illness last month. The student tested negative for the virus.
The number of cases of coronavirus in Ontario is still contained with low risk to the public, but does continue to grow with people testing positive for the virus in Ontario as recently as this weekend. As of the timing of this article, the total number of cases in the province is up to 35.
