Ticats clinch playoffs for second consecutive season

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats clinch CFL playoffs for the second consecutive season.

The clinching moment came during Fridays victory over the Edmonton Eskimos, following a game tying kick from the Edmonton Eskimos that left the game at 27-27 with 35 seconds remaining.

With the game on the line, quarterback Dane Evans launched the ball deep downfield to put the Ticats in field goal range.

From 34 yards out, Ticats kicker, Lirim Hajrullahu, managed a messy snap and kicked the ball wide left, where it bounced off the goal post and in, giving the Ticats a 30-27 victory and leading them to 10-3 on the season.

This game was certainly a scare for the Tiger Cats, as their 24-point first half lead was slowly erased by the end of the fourth quarter.

After the win, Coach Orlondo Steinaur reflected on the grittiness of his team. “We didn’t execute how we would in practice or how we would like to in a situation like that. It’s always going to be judged on results, and so it found a way to go through. A little uneasy there no doubt, but we came through this time.”

With a 10-3 record with 5 games left in season, the Tiger Cats have clinched a playoff berth and are on the path to securing home field advantage for the Eastern conference playoffs.

The second place Montreal Alouettes, with a 9-5 record, still have a chance to take that first-place spot by the end of the season.

This marks the second consecutive playoff bound season for the Ticats. This year, however, fans and players alike are hoping for an Eastern Conference title, and that sweet Grey Cup victory.
