Toast Wine Bar is closing its doors

Another beloved Hamilton spot has announced that it will be permanently closing its doors amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

That would be Toast Wine Bar, one of downtown Hamilton’s only wine bars and a popular spot for local lovers of all things fermented to luxuriate over a glass of Spanish red or Ontario white while nibbling on charcuterie and other small bites.

The beloved John Street nightlife spot, which had pivoted to take-out and curb-side pickup during the pandemic, will be officially closing up and ceasing operations at the end of June.

“We are so happy for all the guests we’ve served, connections we’ve made, and people who have crossed our paths on this journey the last four years,” said Toast Wine Bar in their social media announcement.

“You have truly filled our hearts and you will not be forgotten. Your support has meant the world to us and we are saddened that you’ll no longer be seated at our tables.”

Until the end of this month, Toast will still be offering take-out to Hamiltonians who want to get their final fix, and offering some of their remaining stock of wines for sale as well.

The outpouring of love, support, and heartbreak on social media has already been immense, with local wine lovers and neighbouring businesses bidding farewell to this downtown staple; one which has been uncorking the best bottles of local and international wine for years in their casual-yet-chic setting.

Notably, this isn’t the first local wine bar to close amid COVID-19; recently, the newly-established Meanwhile Winebar on James North also announced their closure, after only a few months in business.

Hamiltonians wanting to get their final tastes of Toast Wine Bar can order food and drink for take-out on their website.
