Top 10 Things to Do This Summer in Hamilton

As the warmer weather approaches, it’s time to think about fun summer activities! There are so many things to do and events to attend in Hamilton during the summertime. In no specific order, here is our top 10 list of things to do this summer in Hamilton!

Festival of Friends

Festival of Friends is a beloved event that locals look forward to every year. During the first weekend in August, Gage Park in downtown Hamilton turns into a festival full of music, food, and entertainment. Every year the festival features amazing performers, delicious food, and so many fun activities that can be enjoyed by all. 

This year the festival will be hosted from August 4th to 6th. Each day will feature new performances and events. The performer and vendor line up for this season has yet to be announced, so stay tuned! 

Treetop Trekking

Treetop Trekking is somewhat new to Hamilton and has become a great event for summer fun. It is located at the Binbrook Conservation Area and is the only adventure of its kind in Hamilton. Activities include climbing and ziplining through trees as well as fun bridges and obstacles. This is definitely something to check out if you love being active outdoors!

Adventure Village

Adventure Village is a small amusement park located at Hamilton’s Confederation Park. They have a rock climbing wall, a bungee jumping trampoline, bumper cars, outdoor laser tag, classic mini golf, and more. The park also holds group events which are perfect for a birthday or family event. This is a great choice for bringing the family together or a date night!

Go-Karting

There are two popular places in Hamilton for go-karting. Cameron Speedway & Amusement Park is located on 2633 Upper James Street and is known for its amazing race track. Since 2012, the park has been the go-to place for go-karting in the city. This park also offers other fun events like paintball and laser tag!

Lakeland Kartway is located on 80 Van Wagners Beach Road and is another great place for outdoor go-karting. This track is located just minutes away from the beach, and has been a city favorite for 60 years! This has been an iconic Hamilton go-kart track and will continue to host summer fun for years to come.

Hiking

Calling all hikers! There are so many trails and waterfalls in Hamilton to hike this summer. The Chedoke Radial Trail, Fifty Point, Christie Lake and Dundas Valley Conservation Area are all amazing trails for a great summer day hike.

On a warmer day, you may want to take a hike towards a waterfall. Albion Falls, Devil’s Punchbowl and Chedoke Falls are very popular falls in Hamilton and are a great spot to visit to cool down!

Royal Botanical Gardens

Whether you visit the Rock Garden, RBG Centre, or a nature trail, all parts of the Royal Botanical Gardens are an amazing experience in the summer! A relaxing walk through beautiful flowers and plants gives you a chance to connect with nature in Hamilton.

The RBG sometimes hosts special events in the warmer seasons, including Music In The Garden, Shakespeare In The Garden, and The Enchanted Garden, all of which are great for kids. The Royal Botanical Gardens makes for a great solo activity this summer or can also be enjoyed with others.

Hutch’s On The Beach

Hutch’s On The Beach is an absolute Hamilton classic. This restaurant is known for its delicious homemade fish and chips, but also its traditional feel. Since 1946 locals in Hamilton have considered Hutch’s an essential spot in the summer.

It is located on Van Wagners Beach Road right by the water. This is a great spot to head to with your family to grab some food or ice cream and take a walk down the beach! Hutch’s is more than a restaurant to locals here in Hamilton, it’s an experience!

Roller Skating at Pier 8 Park

The roller skating rink at Pier 8 Park is now open! Skate rentals have been available since May 20th and will continue to be open on Fridays from 5pm-9:30pm and 12pm-9:30pm on weekends. Roller skating is a classic summer activity and Bayfront is one of the only spots with a public rink and rentals. If you’re looking for something to do on a summer evening, head down to Bayfront Park to give roller skating a try!

Hamilton Greek Fest

Do you love authentic Greek food? If so, check this festival out! Last year it was held at the Panagia Greek Orthodox Church on East 15th Street and Brucedale Avenue, but the details for this year’s fest have yet to be confirmed.

For over 40 years this has been a beloved event for people in Hamilton and it is the city’s only Greek Fest. You won’t only be tasting delicious and authentic Greek food, but there will also be many events, kid activities, live performances and more! Visit their website here for more information. 

Starlite Drive In

Who doesn’t love the drive-in? Hamilton’s only drive-in theatre called Starlite Drive In is located on 59 Green Mountain Road East in Stoney Creek. People love the classic original look of this theatre that has been around since 1955. The drive-in is a great way to see a new movie in the summer and can be turned into a group event! Wearing PJ’s and laying down while at the theatre? What can be better than that!
