True Hamiltonian in Jackson Square has closed, moving to wholesale

2020 has barely begun, but the local closures are already rolling in. Clothing retailer True Hamiltonian has shut the doors of its shop in Jackson Square at the end of its storefront lease as of December 31st.

A brand synonymous with #HamOnt pride, True Hamiltonian is mainly known for their iconic ‘Hamilton is Home’ line of shirts, sweaters, hats, and other clothing items and accessories. The brainchild of owner and founder Max Francis, it’s hard to find a proud Hamilton resident who doesn’t know what True Hamiltonian is, if not already owning at least one clothing item from their line.

Though the news may come as a disappointment to local brand fans, Francis is quick to express that closing the retail store in no way means that True Hamiltonian is hurting for business; quite the opposite, in fact.

“Our Jackson Square lease was up. We are not out of business,” explains Francis.

He also says that a new brick & mortar location for the shop isn’t necessarily a primary objective for the near future. “We are leaning towards wholesaling. We already have 6 retail partners who sell our gear,” Francis says. “Another store may not even be necessary.”

So, while True Hamiltonian’s dedicated storefronts may be a thing of the past for the time being, you can still find their apparel line at spots like Hamilton International Airport, McMaster Campus Store, Mohawk College, and Tourism Hamilton. With the Jackson Square storefront closing, it’s likely that True Hamiltonian is setting its sights on acquiring even more retail partners as well.

Of course, the entire line is always available on the True Hamiltonian official website, too.
