After taking down all the holiday decorations, Hamilton residents can donate their real Christmas trees to the Royal Botanical Gardens until January 13th.
We want your Christmas Trees! Donate your tree to assist with RBG's conservation projects at Princess Point and Grindstone Creek.
Drop off your trees until Jan 13 (or until RBG has received enough trees to complete the project)

Donating a tree will help the RBG rejuvenate the barriers that run along some of the creek channels in the area. The Christmas trees are used at the mouth of the Grindstone Creek to rebuild the creek channels.
The invasion of non-native common carp in Hamilton Harbour has impacted the creek channels. RBG intend to restore the floodplain ponds which have been slowly disappearing because of the destructive activity of the carp.
Restoring the tree line facilitates the growth of marsh plants creating habitat for native fish and wildlife.
Old Christmas trees are ideal building blocks for these areas with fluctuating water levels. The trees sit on top of the unconsolidated mud without sinking, and create a barrier when they are packed down.
Old Christmas trees breakdown and adding new trees each year helps rejuvenate the integrity of the barrier that will protect the floodplain ponds during high water levels.
The RBG will be collecting Christmas trees from now up until January 13th, 2020. Make sure to remove all ornaments before donating. Trees will only be accepted at Below Laking Garden (1200 Spring Garden Road in Burlington) and Princess Point (335 Longwood Road, Hamilton).
