VIDEO: comedy series This Hour Has 22 Minutes debuts sketch about Hamilton

A popular CBC comedy series just debuted a sketch about Hamilton, comparing the city to the smash-hit Broadway musical of the same name.

Long-running CBC Television series This Hour Has 22 Minutes has been a Canadian TV mainstay since 1993, with sketches that satirize national news, major events, and other pieces of topical Canadiana.

Jokes that compare the City of Hamilton to ‘Hamilton’, Lin-Manuel Miranda’s impossibly popular 2015 hip-hop musical about American founding father Alexander Hamilton, are not uncommon; especially now that Canada’s first production of the musical recently opened just down the highway in Toronto.

22 Minutes takes the comparison the extra mile with this sketch, with actors performing a show that looks a lot like the hit musical, but featuring musical numbers that poke fun at the Hammer.

The sketch features fun shout-outs to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and the city’s adjoining municipalities like Dundas and Stoney Creek.

This is hardly the first time Hamilton has been the subject of a comedy TV series; another CBC series, Baroness von Sketch Show, recently released a sketch about Hamilton as well!
