A fatal crash that happened on June 13th, 2018, on Queenston Road in Hamilton wrapped up trial with lawyers’ submissions on November 29th, 2019.
The lawyers for the two men accused of street racing in a crash that killed a 25-year-old woman argued there was no real proof their defendants were racing.
A video released by The Hamilton Spectator, which was first obtained by police and presented at trial, demonstrates that the crash was nearly unquestionably a result of street racing.
Sara Viet Hoang, 25, was pulling out of a parking lot after visiting Sam’s Queenston Bakery when she was struck by one of the street racers. She died shortly after the crash occurred.
It’s estimated that the Mercedes that hit Hoang was traveling 126 km/h in a 50 km/h zone at impact.
Ahmad (Sarosh) Durani, 24, and Warren Lewis, 37, are each charged with criminal negligence causing death while street racing.
Durani is further charged with failing to remain at the scene of a crash while Lewis is further charged with impaired driving and failure to comply with a probation order. Both have pleaded not guilty.
Justice Bernd Zabelis is to render his judgment on January 30th, 2020.
