Talk and Tea: Triumphant Tchaikovsky

When: Friday January 17th, 2020 from 11 am – 12:30 pm

Enjoy a behind-the-scenes look at your HPO and get to know the music on our Mainstage in an inviting environment. Join Composer-in-Residence Abigail Richardson-Schulte for a fascinating talk on the lives and music of composers while enjoying coffee, tea, and treats with friends. Then, make your way to the orchestra level of the Great Hall for a peek at an HPO orchestra rehearsal.

Somehow Hollow

It’s been a long and winding road in the 16 years between releases from the punk brothers in arms, Mike and Brad Casarin, and their life long project, Somehow Hollow.

Cinque #18: Come The New

When: Friday January 17th, 2020 from 8 pm – 10 pm

Cinquefoil is a series celebrating chamber music of all kinds, including classical, jazz, folk and electronic music. 5 artists performing for 10 minutes each, all programming their music based on a common theme.

In The Time Of Old Age

When: Friday, January 17th, 2020 at 8 pm, Saturday, January 18th at 8pm, and Sunday, January 19th at 2 pm
Where: The Players’ Guild of Hamilton

Canadian playwright Gord Carruth has his roots right here in Hamilton. In his tender and heartwarming comedy, Reuben and his friend Mickey, both with little time left to live, unexpectedly come into a fortune. With the help of a beautiful lawyer, they plot to perpetrate a sting on a bank manager of questionable integrity and morality, all to benefit older people.

Flute and Guitar Workshop

When: Saturday, January 18th, 2020 from 10 am – 5 pm
Where: Staircase Cafe Theatre
Admission: $75

An opportunity to work on your chamber music skills in a small and large ensemble setting with guitarist Emma Rush and flutist Sara Traficante (Azuline Duo). Participants will play in two ensembles, receive coaching on their instrument and group playing skills, and perform in a concert at the end of the day!

Women’s March 2020

When: Saturday January 18th, 2020 from 1 pm – 3 pm
Where: Hamilton City Hall
Admission: Free

Learn perspectives on what social justice feminism looks like versus performative feminism, working off the question ‘How can feminism better support social justice movements?’

Flashdance

When: Saturday January 18th, 2020 at 10 pm

Come out to Hamilton’s own electric for an all 80’s dance party featuring DJ Waves.

HCA Concert Series: Brett Polegato with Robert Kortgaard

Enjoy an afternoon of song and opera featuring one of Canada’s finest baritone vocalists!

Dope Movie Night: Anaconda

When: Sunday January 19th, 2020 from 8:30 pm – 11 pm
Where: Collective Arts Brewery
Admission: Free

They’ll have beers and snacks available for purchase but you’re welcome to bring your own food (obviously don’t BYOB, come on). Also feel free to bring your own lawn chair or seat cushions.
