The Federal Economic Development Agency of Southern Ontario is giving the YWCA Hamilton $6.4 million to provide support and training to help women transition into high-skilled jobs in fields where they are traditionally underrepresented.
According to the YWCA Hamilton website, the funding will offer training to 70 women over three years and will give them wrap around services and facilitate every step of the process.

The second phase of the funding will include the YWCA Hamilton will spread this new program to different YWCA Member Associations in Southern Ontario. Up to 150 women will be re-trained and ready for new job opportunities.
In phase three of the funding, YWCA Hamilton will be partnering with other associations around the province to develop an app that will help women advance their careers with help of their smartphones.
This app will provide learning and skill enhancement that’s personalized to hundreds of women across Ontario. It is the first of its kind in Canada.
YWCA Hamilton has already been helping women pivot their businesses online since an investment of $1 million was made by WES Ecosystem fund back in 2019. This training and mentorship has been provided to women in communities including Hamilton, Halton, Niagara, Waterloo, Guelph, and more.
