Amica offering five-cent ice cream cones this Friday

Amica, a retirement community in Stoney Creek, will be honouring Hamilton’s past this Friday by serving five-cent ice cream cones and 20-cent sundaes. These prices are reminiscent of Stoney Creek Dairy’s in 1942.

Amica’s ice cream parlour opened in June as an ode to the former Stoney Creek Dairy.

The parlour is filled with mementos from the historic dairy, such as original marketing materials, old newspaper clippings and photos, big milk drums and much more.

Amica has been thinking about hosting a historically priced event since their parlour opened.

Bringing back prices from the 1940’s isn’t only a great way for Amica residents to relive the past, but also for younger generations to learn about Hamilton’s dairy history.

This event is great fun for all ages. In addition to ice cream, there will be live entertainment, raffles and balloon crafts for kids.

All proceeds from this event will go to Amica’s Helping Hands charity. Through Helping Hands, Amica is able to assist less fortunate seniors – locally and beyond – through providing care baskets and other creature comforts.

Amica will be serving up historically priced dessert Friday, August 31 from 11 am to 3 pm. The event will take place at 135 King Street East.

Will you be attending Amica’s event? What do you miss most about the original Stoney Creek Dairy? Let us know in the comments.
