Dillon’s Distillery is bottling 65% alcohol for disinfecting

Just a short drive out of Hamilton and into Beamsville, a popular small batch distillery has found a creative way of lending a (sanitized) hand during the COVID-19 outbreak.

Dillion’s Small Batch Distillers, known for their popular range of gins, whiskeys, vodkas, and handmade bitters, has been hard at work bottling batches of 130 proof (or 65% ABV) pure alcohol as a disinfectant and distributing them free of charge to essential service individuals and organizations.

Dillon’s has also been making and giving away small batches of handmade hand sanitizer, made with 95% grape ethanol, aloe vera juice, and peach bitters for aroma.

This amazing initiative is especially notable given the recent mass panic-shopping that led to an ongoing shortage of hand sanitizer and other disinfecting products. In fact, the response has already been overwhelming for the distillery.

“In the 24 hours since we posted about our disinfectant and hand sanitizer we have received an enormously overwhelming number of calls and emails,” explains Dillion’s in a social media post.

“As of 4:30 pm on March 18th we have unfortunately run out of 3000 bottles of sanitizer and nearly all the disinfectant. Have no fear, we are working quickly alongside so many wonderful supporters, officials and government to have more available as soon as possible. We will be sure to make everyone aware when more is available.”

Dillon’s Small Batch Distillers remains open for purchases (no tastings for now!), and their line of products is available online too. Go show these amazing folks some love, Hamilton!
