Beloved Hamilton-born rock band Arkells have found a creative way of engaging with their fans and keeping spirits high during the COVID-19 outbreak.
As the community at large hunkers down for an indefinite self-isolation period, Arkells are hosting free online music classes to encourage fans to stay home and do their part in ‘flattening the curve.’
How does it work? Prior to the live-streamed classes, the Hamiltonian rockers post the chords to some of their songs on their social media. Following this, lead singer Max Kerman takes to Instagram Live to teach a real-time tutorial and answer questions.
“If everybody hunkers down here for the next little bit and is well behaved and does the right thing and does what we’re told, we can get on with the fun,” said Kerman.
The live lessons take place at around 1 pm each day on Arkells’ Instagram page, and will cover lessons involving multiple instruments; an amazing way to unite the community at a distance during troubling times.
So far, the band has taught a handful of their most popular songs including People’s Champ, Leather Jacket, Years in the Making, and Don’t Be a Stranger.
