It was approved by council this week to cut about 19,000 hours of Hamilton bus service as the city looks for a way to reduce the 2020 operating budget.
According to the Director of Transit Debbie Dalle Vedove, the HSR cuts are in the form of adjusting the frequency of underperforming routes.

The cuts in service is estimated to save taxpayers about $800,000 for the rest of the year. As well, the savings for a full year with the route reductions are estimated at about $1.7 million.
Council voted in favour of the adjustments to the HSR service on Wednesday in a 13 to 2 vote.
This year’s residential tax increase is currently projected at about 3% as council are trying their best to reduce that number.
The 2020 operating budget is scheduled to be finalized at a meeting on April 1st.
