A cyberattack on the City of Hamilton on February 25th continues to affect numerous important city services, and the city has provided the public an update on the situation.
“The City of Hamilton took swift action to investigate, protects systems and minimize impact on the community,” reads a message from the City.
“We engaged a team of experts, insurers, legal counsel, and relevant authorities and is working diligently to restore the City’s system in a safe and secure manner. While a timeline for recovery is not yet known, the City is committed to resolving the situation as quickly and effectively as possible.”

A list of the city services impacted is available on Hamilton’s website, including key ones like the unavailability of computerized onboard schedules and the HSRNow app for HSR transit users, as well as the unavailability of the online catalogue, WiFi, and public computers at Hamilton Public Library branches.
Systems used for online payments are currently impacted, and the City is also conducting a thorough investigation to find out whether any personal information was accessed or compromised in the cyberattack.
