Hamilton has extended all COVID-19 shutdowns and restrictions to May 25th

The City of Hamilton has officially extended all shutdowns and restrictions in place during the COVID-19 pandemic to May 25th, 2020.

Originally, the city made a move to close all city-run facilities, recreation programs, and non-essential services, with an original projected end date of April 6th. This date, however, turned out to be an optimistic one, with the shutdowns now extending a full 7 weeks beyond that.

Not only that, but according to Mayor Fred Eisenberger, these measures will only be lifted by May 25th if significant progress has been made in stopping the local spread of the novel coronavirus, and the restrictions could be extended even longer if necessary.

These shutdowns are intended to urge Hamilton residents to stay home as much as possible to play their part in slowing the spread of this highly contagious virus, only going out into public for essential needs such as groceries.

The news of this extension comes a day after the province of Ontario also ordered the immediate closure of all public and private outdoor recreation spaces, including playgrounds, dog parks, sports fields, beaches, and other similar facilities.

Hamilton individuals found violating orders during COVID-19 are subject to receive a fine of $750 from city bylaw officers.

101 positive cases of COVID-19, with one death, have currently been confirmed in Hamilton. Locals can stay up to date on developments through the City of Hamilton website.
